This project was an individual project for the creative coding course at SUPSI. We had to develop the prototype of an adverGame that highlighted the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN.
Thinking about my lifestyle and how in my individual scale I could contribute to reaching these goals, I decided to focus on the goal 12 - Responsible consumption and production. Goal 12 is about ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns, which is key to sustain the livelihoods of current and future generations. By 2030, it aims to substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse.
As we all know, overconsumption generates a lot of waste and therefore pollution. With an entertaining and educational game, I hope to make people aware of the impact of overconsumption on the environment and how we can influence it through our behavior.
Through a running game against the pollution of the overconsumption and its temptations, the player will have to reach home without losing her 3 lives.
Behind her, a wave of trash is chasing her. She will be able to influence the progress of this wave by touching floating elements on her way. Some of them will slow down the wave (good actions helping conscious consumption), others will speed it up (polluting objects or industries).
The player will have 3 lives. She loses one when she touches the wave. Each time she loses a life, the background image and music become more sinister and stressful, representing the progress of overconsumption...
In addition to being entertaining, the game aims to be educational by showing facts around over-consumerism and circular economy between each level.
Note : As this game is a prototype, it has only 7 levels. Beyond this level, unexpected behaviors may occur... 👉👈
